Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — A 23-year-old Southern New Mexico man will be serving a sentence of life in federal prison after he was found guilty of kidnapping, carjacking and killing a Las Cruces man in December 2023, in an El Paso federal court. Brayden Matthew Alvarado, of Vado, was sentenced this week. Court documents and evidence presented at trial said Alvarado carjacked a man, drove him onto Fort Bliss desert property and shot him in the head with a 12-gauge shotgun. Investigations by the Army Criminal Investigation Division led to Alvarado’s arrest on Dec. 22, 2023. Alvarado was indicted on Jan. 17, 2024. and was found guilty by a federal jury in 2025 . The kidnapping conviction carries a mandatory life in prison penalty, federal officials said.
