Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – According to the New Mexico Department of Transportation the state is no longer Number One in the country in pedestrian fatalities. For the first time in ten-years, New Mexico has dropped from numer one to number 9 for pedestrian fatalities. The reduction is attributed to an initiative called “Target Zero” which is an effort to completely end fatalities in vehicle crashes and pedestrian fatalities across the state by 2050. David Quintana, acting secretary of the state Department of Transportation, said Tuesday during a meeting of the Transportation Infrastructure Revenue Subcommittee.“Finally, New Mexico pedestrian fatalities are decreasing,” Quintana said.
