Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – Two separate motorcycle crashes are under investigation by APD. The latest happened Wednesday night around 7:30 p.m. where a motorcycle crashed into a wall at Westside Blvd. and 7 Bar Loop Rd., N.W. According to Investigators, a motorcycle was traveling northbound on 7 Bar Loop Rd., when it crossed both lanes of Westside Blvd., struck a curb, went across the walking path/sidewalk and struck the large retaining wall. The motorcyclist received significant injuries from the crash and died at the scene. A witness told investigators the motorcyclist did not stop at the stop sign on 7 Bar Loop Rd and was speeding just before crashing into the retaining wall. It is unknown if the motorcyclist was impaired at the time of the crash.
The other fatal crash happened Wednesday afternoon and involved a motorcycle and another vehicle in Northeast Albuquerque. Officers responded to the crash shortly before 1 p.m. at the intersection of Menaul Blvd. and Richmond Dr., N.E. Investigators determined a Subaru was facing southbound on Richmond at the stop with Menaul and at the same time a Yamaha motorcycle was traveling westbound on Menaul approaching Richmond. A T-Bone type collision occurred and the motorcyclist died at the scene. The driver of the Subaru was not injured and remained on scene. At this time speed from the motorcyclist appears to be a factor in for this crash. The investigation is in its early stages and is ongoing.
