ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico has announced three finalists in its search for the next Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs.
The finalists were selected following a national search and include:
- Avery August, Ph.D., Deputy Provost at Cornell University
- Charles Martinez, Ph.D., Dean of the College of Education at the University of Texas at Austin
- Barbara Rodriguez, Ph.D., Interim Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at UNM
University officials say the provost serves as UNM’s chief academic officer, overseeing academic programs, faculty affairs, research, and student success initiatives.
Each finalist will participate in an open forum on campus, giving faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members an opportunity to engage directly with the candidates. The forums will be held in the Student Union Building, Lobo A/B, from 10:05 to 11:05 a.m.
The schedule includes:
- Avery August on Friday, May 1
- Charles Martinez on Wednesday, May 6
- Barbara Rodriguez on Thursday, May 7
Virtual attendance options will be available, and recordings of the forums will be posted after all visits are completed. Community members will also be invited to provide feedback through surveys.
A final selection will be made after all campus visits conclude and with the involvement of UNM’s incoming university president.
