Chaparral, NM (KKOB) – Doña Ana County Animal Control rescued 15 dogs from a home in Chaparral after discovering the animals in severe neglected conditions. Officers, assisted by the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office, executed a search warrant Tuesday around noon at a home on the 600 block of Palmas Street.
County officials say they found a total of 21 dogs living in poor conditions. Several animals were already dead, while others were suffering from severe malnutrition and medical distress. Fifteen dogs were taken into custody and transported to the county’s court-hold facility, where veterinary staff are providing around-the-clock care. Officials say one dog escaped before capture, one was euthanized due to its condition, and another died while being transported. Two of the rescued dogs are pregnant.
The County said in this instance, the 21 dogs found on the property exceeded the allowable limit, and said the property was not in compliance with the ordinance. All animals will remain at the Court Hold facility, pending legal proceedings, and this case remains under investigation and the case remains under investigation as legal proceedings move forward.
