SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO – Word warriors are buzzing back to the stage for a spelling showdown that promises to bee unforgettable.
Santa Fe’s top spellers are gearing up for a battle of words that could last longer than your lunch break. The Santa Fe County Spelling Bee is set for Friday, January 23, at Santa Fe Community College, starting at noon.
Students from public, private, charter, and homeschool programs will compete for the county crown after advancing from school-level contests. Last year’s bee stretched to 22 rounds before Bhavithsai Gurram of the Academy for Technology and the Classics claimed victory.
The event is open to the public, but seating is limited—so if you want a front-row seat to the drama of “i-before-e” and silent letters, arrive early. It’s a chance to celebrate academic excellence and watch Santa Fe’s brightest prove they know their way around the dictionary.
