ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO – The New Mexico Department of Health will maintain its full childhood vaccination recommendations, even as the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services reduces the number of vaccines routinely recommended for children.
Federal officials announced the change this week, but state leaders say the decision is not based on new scientific evidence. Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham reaffirmed New Mexico’s commitment to its current guidelines, calling them “decades of proven public health practice.”
Health officials say vaccine access and coverage under Medicaid, private insurance, and the Vaccines for Children program will remain unchanged. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to consult their healthcare providers and follow the American Academy of Pediatrics’ immunization schedule.
