SANTA FE, N.M. — New Mexicans will have an opportunity to review and comment on a draft management plan that will help guide the future of Fenton Lake State Park over the next five years.
The New Mexico State Parks Division announced that a 30-day public review period for the park’s draft management plan begins Nov. 5.
According to state officials, the plan evaluates current conditions at the park and outlines recommendations related to natural resource stewardship, recreation opportunities, operations, and future capital improvement projects.
Management plans are used to document park conditions, establish priorities, identify potential land uses, and help guide future decisions about park development and maintenance.
“Fenton Lake State Park is an anchor for recreation, heritage, and local connection in the Jemez region,” said Toby Velásquez, director of the State Parks Division.
A public meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the U.S. Forest Service Jemez Ranger Station Conference Room, located at 51 Woodsy Lane in Jemez Springs. Community members will have an opportunity to provide comments and feedback on the draft plan.
The document is available for public review at:
- Fenton Lake State Park Office, 455 Fenton Lake Road, Jemez Springs
- State Parks Division Main Office, 1220 South St. Francis Drive, Santa Fe
- The Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department website
Officials say public feedback gathered during the review period will be considered before a final version of the management plan is adopted.
