Tijeras, NM (KKOB)- BCSO deputies came under gunfire early Saturday morning off of NM 333 just east of Tijeras after answering a disturbance call involving several individuals believed to be juveniles.
Deputies were dispatched around 3 a.m. Saturday to the 1100 block of NM 333 after receiving calls that several individuals inside a residence were causing a disturbance. Callers reported yelling, a possible physical altercation, threats of violence, and individuals armed with firearms.
When BCSO deputies arrived, they made contact with a 17-year-old male outside the home. While deputies were speaking with the juvenile, someone at the residence started shooting in their direction. Deputies immediately took cover, moved the juvenile to safety, and established a perimeter around the property.
No deputies or civilians were reported struck by gunfire, although at least one round struck a BCSO patrol unit.
Due to the dangerous situation with armed individuals inside the residence, BCSO SWAT Team was activated. Other law enforcement agencies such as NM State Police, Edgewood PD, and Santa Fe County Sheriff’s also responded to the location.
During the SWAT response, eight individuals came out of the home and were taken into custody. BCSO’s drone operators also assisted by providing real-time visibility inside the home, where multiple firearms were seen.
BCSO Criminal Investigations Division detectives are continuing the investigation on the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Highway 333 was closed during the incident but was reopened.
BCSO spokesperson Jayme Gonzales says additional information, including potential charges, will be released as details are confirmed.
