SANTA FE, N.M. — A Santa Fe man who police say has been arrested at least 18 times since 2022 is back in custody after allegedly fleeing from officers both in a vehicle and on foot.
According to the Santa Fe Police Department, Omar Aguirre, 37, was arrested Wednesday on charges of reckless driving and three counts of resisting, evading or obstructing an officer.

Police said the incident began shortly after noon on Oct. 28 when a K-9 officer conducting proactive patrols near Harrison Road and Agua Fria Street spotted a white Toyota SUV with no license plate and broken windows parked at a residence in the 1100 block of Harrison Road.
The officer recognized the vehicle as one that had allegedly fled from a traffic stop the week before.
When the officer contacted the occupants, identified as Aguirre and a woman, he requested the keys to the vehicle. Police say Aguirre instead started the SUV and drove away.
A police drone that was already deployed by the department’s Real Time Operations Center tracked the vehicle as it traveled toward Cerrillos Road.
Rather than initiating a vehicle pursuit, officers monitored Aguirre’s movements through the drone feed. Police said Aguirre eventually parked the SUV near Ruta Corta Street and Bellamah Drive before he and the female passenger left on foot.
Officers later attempted to contact Aguirre near the 2800 block of Camino De Bosque, where police say he fled again.
The drone continued tracking Aguirre and observed him entering a nearby residence.
Officers established a perimeter around the home and ordered him to come outside. Aguirre later exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident.
During an inventory search of the SUV, officers said they located a stolen firearm.
Investigators are also working to identify the woman who was riding in the vehicle with Aguirre at the time of the incident.
Aguirre was booked into the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Center.
Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
