SANTA FE, N.M. — A Santa Fe man is facing kidnapping and sexual assault charges following an incident reported near the Agape House shelter on Cerrillos Road.
According to the Santa Fe Police Department, officers responded to the shelter on October 27 after staff members reported that a female guest had returned and said she had been sexually assaulted by another shelter resident.
Police said the woman told officers she had gone on a walk with a man later identified as Jamey Griego, 51. During the walk, investigators say Griego allegedly picked her up, carried her over his shoulder against her will, and took her to a tent in a nearby field.
According to police, the woman reported calling for help and resisting, but said no one came to her aid. Investigators allege that Griego then sexually assaulted her inside the tent.
After the incident, the woman returned to Agape House, reported what had happened to shelter staff, and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Shelter employees identified Griego as a guest at the facility and directed officers to a bunk room, where police say he was found sleeping and taken into custody without incident.
The Santa Fe Police Department Crime Scene Unit responded to collect and process evidence related to the investigation.
Griego was booked into the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Center on charges of kidnapping and criminal sexual penetration. Police also say he is being held on an alleged probation violation.
Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing.
