ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Balloon Discovery Center is marking its 25th anniversary during the 2026 ExxonMobil Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta with a new interactive exhibit and the return of several fan favorites.
Located at the north end of Balloon Fiesta Park near the Artisans Tent, the Balloon Discovery Center offers visitors hands-on opportunities to learn about the science, history and operation of hot air balloons.
To celebrate its milestone year, organizers are introducing a new exhibit called “The Wind Factor.” The attraction uses an automated fan and narrated demonstrations to show how different wind speeds impact balloon launches and flight safety. Visitors can experience wind conditions ranging from 1 mph to 15 mph while learning why weather plays a critical role in ballooning.
The center will also continue offering some of its most popular attractions, including:
- Pilot Simulator: A 3D balloon flight simulator that allows guests to experience how pilots navigate using burner and vent controls.
- 360-Degree Virtual Reality Experience: A virtual hot air balloon ride providing aerial views of Balloon Fiesta Park.
- Inspire, the Hot Air Balloon: A walk-through exhibit that allows visitors to step inside an actual balloon envelope.
Longtime volunteer Suzy Dunnum said the Balloon Discovery Center remains one of the most interactive attractions at Balloon Fiesta and offers something for visitors of all ages.
The Balloon Discovery Center is open daily during Balloon Fiesta from 5 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Admission is included with a Balloon Fiesta ticket.
The 2026 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta runs throughout October and is recognized as the largest gathering of hot air balloons and balloonists in the world.
