ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico United is bringing back a familiar face as the club enters the final stretch of the season.
The team announced Wednesday that it has recalled midfielder Marlon Vargas from his loan stint with USL League One side Union Omaha, pending league and federation approval.
Vargas appeared in eight matches for Union Omaha, recording two goals, one assist, and six shots during his time with the club.
With the move complete, Vargas will return to New Mexico United wearing his familiar No. 8 jersey and is expected to be available for selection when United takes on Indy Eleven on Friday.
The club said the transaction was finalized before the USL Championship roster freeze deadline on Sept. 7, making Vargas eligible to rejoin the squad for the remainder of the season.
Vargas has been a key contributor for New Mexico United in previous seasons, and his return adds depth and experience to the club’s midfield as it continues its push toward the postseason.
