Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –The NM State Attorney General’s office says a Las Cruces equine therapist pleaded guilty to Medicaid fraud and agreed to pay nearly $1 million in restitution. The AG’s office said Nancy Marshall, owner of Equine Assisted Programs of Southern NM pleaded guilty to two counts each of Medicaid fraud, falsification of documents and identity theft. Marshall stole the identities of staff and patients, including children, fabricated false counseling records, and fraudulently billed NM’s Medicaid program more than $970,000. The case was brought to the attention of the NMDOJ after two key staff members terminated their employment with the facility. Marshall was ordered to pay the amount stolen to the state and, after failing to appear at her sentencing hearing with a percentage of the restitution payment, she was remanded into custody and sentenced to five years in prison followed by five years of probation.
