Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –Most of us won’t get to see the total eclipse of the sun on Thursday but we can see the annual viewing of the Perseid meteor shower, if you’re willing to get up early in the morning. The meteor shower will peak in the early morning hours Thursday. A great view of the Perseids will be helped by a new moon making skies darker. The meteor shower tends to produce brilliant fireballs, larger explosions of light and color that can last longer than an average meteor streak. Astronomers estimate about 25 meteors per hour. Getting far away from city lights will provide the best view of the meteor shower and viewing should be prime between midnight and 3am in the northeast sky.
