Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –Nearly 11,000 acres in the Mimbres Valley in southwestern NM is now protected land. That announcement made today by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and the New Mexico Department of Wildlife. The property borders the Gila National forest and includes an almost two mile stretch of the Mimbres River. The property protects important habitat for two native fish species that are found in the area and increases opportunities for New Mexicans to enjoy outdoor recreation. The property was acquired through the Trust for Public Land, a national conservation nonprofit that focuses on preserving public lands across the country. State leaders, conservation organizations and local communities came together with the goal of protecting the Mimbres Valley for future generations.
