Santa Fe, NM (KKOB) – Santa Fe Police arrested an Oklahoma man after police say he shot at two Santa Fe Police Officers investigating a report of shots fired at a local motel. Reese Michael Jenson, 21 of Inola, Oklahoma was arrested Tuesday Morning. According to police, officers responded to the Motel 6, at 3007 Cerrillos Road, in reference to several reports of shots fired from the second floor of the motel.
Upon arriving on scene, two police officers were directed to the room by hotel staff and were provided a master key. The officers found the door of the room had several bullet holes. Officers tried to make contact with the occupant of the room knocking on the door and used the master key, but the door remained locked and unable to open.
When the officers attempted to force entry to check on the occupants and determine if they needed medical assistance, they were shot at from inside the room. Fortunately no officers were injured by the gunfire. Officers did not return fire, and immediately contained the scene and evacuated occupied rooms. After several attempts at contacting the person inside the room, he refused to come out and told officers to leave him alone. Santa Fe SWAT team was called out to the scene as well as the Crisis Negotiations Team and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team.
After several hours with Mr. Jenson refusing to communicate with police, the SWAT and EOD conducted a forced entry into the hotel room but Jenson exited onto the second floor catwalk and physically confronted officers. After a short physical struggled with SWAT Operators, he was taken into custody and the handgun recovered. Jenson was booked into the Santa Fe County Detention Center on charges of Aggravated Assault Against a Peace Officer (2 counts), Criminal Damage to Property (Over $1,000), and Negligent Use of a Deadly Weapon.
