Española, NM (KKOB) – An Española man who admitted to a violent 2022 crime spree has been sentenced in federal court. Ricky Martinez Jr. was ordered to serve 40 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to charges stemming from a series of armed robberies in northern New Mexico. Federal prosecutors say the crime spree included armed robberies at a gas station, a Walgreens, and Dandy Burger. Martinez had previously been sentenced to 25 years in state prison for the fatal shooting of Cypress Garcia during the robbery of a Blake’s Lotaburger in Española.
Authorities say the sentences stem from separate state and federal cases tied to the same series of crimes.
