Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — Health officials say a bat found in Sandoval County has tested positive for rabies, marking New Mexico’s ninth confirmed animal rabies case of 2026. The New Mexico Department of Health says the bat was discovered in a private home and later tested at the state’s Scientific Laboratory Division. Officials say all people and animals exposed to the bat are receiving post-exposure vaccinations. Rabies is most commonly found in New Mexico wildlife, including bats, skunks, foxes and bobcats.
