Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – The minimum wage in Albuquerque could be going up. Tonight, the City Council will be discussing and taking final action on a proposal to increase the minimum wage by three-dollars starting in January. The measure has the support of four members of the council, Stephanie Telles, Nichole Rogers, Joaquin Baca and Tamy Fiebelkorn. The minimum wage would go up to $15 an hour and to $9 for employees who work for tips. The bill, would implement annual cost of living adjustments tied to the Consumer Price Index and Fair Market Rent —— for a two-bedroom home in Albuquerque.
Councilor Dan Lewis, is calling the increase “another misguided policy that ignores economic reality and threatens the small businesses,” saying there’s strong opposition to the proposal from the Hispano Chamber, Albuquerque Chamber and New Mexico Restaurant Association “says it all.”
