Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – Gas prices around New Mexico are averaging 11 cents higher compared to last week as thousands of New Mexicans prepare to head out for the the long Memorial Day weekend. The average statewide price for gas is $4.50 per gallon and residents in Farmington are paying the most on average at $4.66 per gallon. The lowest average price is in Southern New Mexico, with prices in Las Cruces averaging $4.37 per gallon.
“Millions of Mountain Region residents are preparing to hit the road for Memorial Day weekend, and they’ll be doing so with the highest holiday pump prices in four years,” said Daniel Armbruster, AAA New Mexico spokesperson. “Higher fuel demand, elevated crude oil prices and ongoing global supply concerns are keeping upward pressure on prices as the summer travel season begins.
Gasoline demand is on the rise as the summer is about to kickoff this weekend and with the prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz, pump prices are likely to remain elevated during the summer travel season.
Drivers can help manage costs by shopping around for the lowest gas prices, combining errands, avoiding aggressive driving and making sure their vehicle is properly maintained before a road trip.”
