Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – Social media company, Meta, saying they may have to shutdown their social media platforms in New Mexico if the company and the state can’t come to an agreement on requirements the state is making The disagreement between the state and Meta follows after the trial where a jury found Meta had violated state laws regarding how they protect children on their platforms.
Now, Attorney General Raul Torrez says “this is just Meta, showing the world how little it cares about child safety. Meta’s refusal to follow the laws that protect our kids.”
“Meta is showing the world how little it cares about child safety” said Attorney General Raúl Torrez in a news release. ” We know Meta has the ability to make these changes.”
A spokesman for Meta issued a statement saying in part, “the state’s demands are technically impractical, impossible to meet and disregard the realities of the internet, the state ignores hundreds of other apps teens use.” “if a workable solution to Attorney General Torrez’s demands is not reached, we may have no choice but to remove access to its platforms for users in New Mexico entirely.”
The two parties will be going before a judge in another trial this month.
