Taos, NM (KKOB) – An investigation underway in Taos County for the death of a six-year-old girl who according to sheriff’s investigators, died inside the home where various drugs were found throughout the house the child was living in with her mother.
Allyson Fernandez was arrested by Taos County Sheriff’s investigators Monday, accused of exposing her child to drugs which they say led to the girls death.
Court documents indicate that the girl was found unresponsive at her home in Vadito Sunday afternoon and was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in Taos and then to UNM Hospital where she died. Investigators said Fernandez was known as a drug user and found drugs throughout the home including fentanyl and cocaine that were in “close proximity to where the child was found unresponsive,” according to Taos County Sheriff Steve Miera.
According to CYFD, Since 2020, they say they’ve investigated seven reports of abuse or neglect by the mother and after the last incident in December, the mother had agreed to counseling and drug treatment. They say they had not had any reports till now when she was on life support at UNMH.
