Santa Fe, NM (KKOB)- A 26-year old Santa Fe man has been ordered to remain in jail without bond until his trial for the savage killing of his mother. Devan Roybal was deemed too dangerous to be released to the public. He is charged with beating and stabbing his mother, 50-year old Jennifer Vigil, in the kitchen of her home in Rancho Viejo last month.
According to the New Mexican, Roybal is seen in a video which was shown during a hearing, kicking his mother while she was on the floor, then beating her and finally pulling a kitchen knife and stabbing her. Roybal has a history of mental illness and had been diagnosed with schizophrenia in the past. Several previous criminal cases against Roybal were dismissed over the years because he had been found incompetent to stand trial. His mother had told authorities she was afraid of her son before the murder happened.
