Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –A Hobbs man was sentenced to prison for a downtown Albuquerque shooting at a liquor store employee in December of 2024. Kevin Metcalf entered El Rey Liquors and attempted to steal alcohol. A store employee intervened and Metcalf fled the scene. Metcalf then turned around and fired a shot toward two employees standing in the doorway, striking one in the leg. An APD officer heard the shot and saw a vehicle leaving the area without headlights. Police stopped the vehicle and the driver and Metcalf were detained. At the time of the shooting Metcalf had prior felony convictions and knew he was not allowed to possess guns and ammunition. He pled guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and was sentenced to 66 months in prison. Upon release, Metcalf will be subject to three years of supervised release.
