Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –NM State Police released the name of the individual involved in Tuesday’s shooting in the community of Manzano where a man shot at a Torrance County deputy. The man, identified as Edward Lopez was actively shooting on a property when a relative called police. Torrance County deputies arrived on scene and told Lopez they had a misdemeanor warrant for his arrest. Lopez retrieved a rifle from inside the house and began exchanging gunfire with the deputies. Backup was requested from NM State Police. Lopez then fled the scene to a nearby property where NM State Police tactical officers began searching for Lopez. Gunfire was exchanged and Lopez was struck. Aid was rendered on scene, Lopez was taken to a nearby volunteer fire house where he succumbed to his injuries. No officers, deputies or civilians were injured. NM State Police Investigations Bureau is continuing to investigate the incident. Lopez is said to have an extensive criminal history.
