Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – A 17-year-old male is dead and a 10-year old boy along with several others are in custody after a brawl broke out Saturday afternoon in northeast Albuquerque between neighbors over loud music. When APD officers responded to the home around 4 p.m., a woman came out of the residence and one officer fired his weapon. No one was injured at that moment.
The incident happened in the area of Tennessee and Chico Rd NE.
APD Chief Cecily Barker held a news conference this evening to provide additional information. According to the Chief, during the fight between the neighbors, the 10-year old went inside the home and came back outside with a gun and fired one shot killing the 17-year-old male.
Because one of the officers did fire his weapon, the Multi-Agency Task Force is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
While the 10-year-old is in custody, according to Chief Barker, the Juvenile Detention Center does not accept juveniles of that age. APD will now be working with the District Attorney’s Office and an Assistant DA to determine what will happen with the boy. The investigation will be ongoing tonight and further details are expected.
