Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — What will UNM women’s basketball look like in it’s first season under their new head coach? The Lobos were picked fifth in the Mountain West preseason poll announced Wednesday during media day in Las Vegas. Speaking in Las Vegas the new coach, Amy Eagan highlighted the hard work of her players saying”… You’re going to see a phenomenal group of young women that are going to play hard and represent the Lobos. That’s something you just don’t find in every program you are in. We just got the right people, and the right kids.” One of those kids is sophmore guard Laila Abdurraquib, who was selected to the preseason Mountain West All-Conference team. When asked about the recognition Abdurraqib said, “Having that respect from others as a sophmore means a lot. But it means nothing until I play..I have to hold myself to that standard and actually do it.” UNM opens their regular season at home against Seattle University on November 2nd.
