SANTA FE, N.M. — New Mexico residents can enjoy free access to most state parks this fall and winter while taking part in a variety of seasonal activities ranging from salmon fishing and outdoor art programs to Halloween-themed events.
The New Mexico State Parks Division announced that standard day-use fees have been waived for New Mexico residents at 33 state parks through April 30, giving families additional opportunities to explore outdoor recreation areas across the state.
State park officials say fall is one of the most popular times to visit parks as temperatures cool and changing landscapes create ideal conditions for hiking, fishing, wildlife viewing, and camping.
Free Day-Use Through April 30
From October 1 through April 30, New Mexico residents can visit most state parks free of charge.
Excluded parks:
- Living Desert Zoo & Gardens State Park
- Rio Grande Nature Center State Park
Kokanee Salmon Season Underway
Anglers can also take advantage of the annual kokanee salmon snagging season, which runs through December 31 at:
- Navajo Lake State Park
- Eagle Nest Lake State Park
The special season allows anglers to catch kokanee salmon under state fishing regulations and licensing requirements.
