ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Visitors to the ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden can now experience a unique blend of art and nature with the arrival of ORIGAMI IN THE GARDEN, a nationally touring exhibit featuring large-scale metal sculptures inspired by the ancient art of paper folding.
The exhibit opened October 8 and will remain on display through March 28, 2027. Created by Jennifer Box and Kevin Box of Santa Fe, the collection transforms delicate origami designs into massive sculptures displayed throughout the Botanic Garden.
Guests will find 14 outdoor sculptures and four indoor works, ranging from a small mouse measuring just seven inches to “Hero’s Horse,” a 12-foot-tall Pegasus sculpture weighing more than 1,300 pounds.
The exhibit features animals and nature-inspired designs, including cranes, butterflies, horses, and other wildlife. The pieces are created using metal casting and fabrication techniques while preserving the intricate folds and details of the original paper artwork.
According to the artists, the exhibition combines art, engineering, and nature, creating an experience that changes as visitors move through the Garden’s landscapes.
Originally launched in 2013, ORIGAMI IN THE GARDEN debuted as a traveling exhibit in 2014 and has since been viewed by more than three million visitors at gardens and museums across the United States.
