ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A frozen pasta product sold at Walmart stores across the country is being recalled because of possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Gias Foods Inc. has voluntarily recalled two lots of bettergoods Authentic Italian Lemon Alfredo Fettuccine after routine testing identified the potential presence of listeria bacteria. The product was distributed nationwide through Walmart stores.
The recalled product comes in a 22-ounce package with UPC 194346442706 and includes the following lot numbers:
- L6079C with an expiration date of Sept. 19, 2027
- L6080C with an expiration date of Sept. 20, 2027
The recall was initiated on Sept. 15 after testing by the Washington State Department of Agriculture and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services detected possible contamination. Officials say no illnesses have been reported in connection with the product.
Listeria can cause a serious infection known as listeriosis. Symptoms may include fever, headache, muscle aches, fatigue, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and seizures. Young children, older adults, pregnant individuals, and people with weakened immune systems are considered most at risk.
Gias Foods says distribution of the affected product has been halted while the company investigates the source of the contamination.
Consumers who purchased the recalled pasta are advised not to eat it and may return it to Walmart for a full refund.
