Deming, NM (KKOB)- In Luna County the county commission voted to censure the sheriff for charges of abusing his office and position. The vote earlier this month was 3 to 0 by commissioners against Sheriff Mike Eby. According to a resolution, Eby is accused of abusing his office by selectively submitting misconduct complaints against sheriff’s office personnel in service of his personal interests rather than in compliance with applicable laws.
Speaking to the Albuquerque Journal, Eby called the resolution “a bunch of bunk” and claims that the county misled him about investigations into what he says were valid complaints against officers.
A lawsuit filed by the county In 2023, against Eby is still pending. They accuse him of arbitrary and unlawful demotions of deputies, and overspending his budget and violating state procurement code. Eby called the lawsuit “frivolous and malicious” at the time.
