Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –Albuquerque City councilors sided with neighbors to revoke the status of an overnight shelter near the Sunport. Councilors voted earlier this month to reverse the approval of a conditional use permit for an overnight shelter on Yale north of the Sunport. During last night’s city council meeting they officially approved the final findings of the neighborhood’s appeal. Neighbors have complained about an increase in trash, drug paraphernalia and people entering vacant homes since the shelter opened last November. Leaders of Empower Health say they’ve added a new curfew, extra security cameras and overnight guards to address neighbors concerns. The shelter will now have 30 days to file their own appeal on the matter.
