Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –New Mexicans will soon be able to vote on a resolution that will give legislators a salary. The resolution will appear on the ballot this November and if passed could change the look of future legislatures. NM is the only state in the country that does not offer a salary to lawmakers, they receive per diem to cover expenses. The salary amount would be determined by the state’s annual medium household income which is about $67,800. A paid legislature would cost taxpayers more than $7 million a year. The general election is November 3rd.
