ISLETA PUEBLO, N.M. — An Albuquerque Police Department officer was involved in a fatal crash Thursday afternoon while responding to assist with a tactical operation in Albuquerque.
According to APD, the officer was traveling to support officers who were attempting to arrest a suspect in an ongoing criminal investigation when the collision occurred near New Mexico 47 and Isleta Lakes Road on Isleta Pueblo.
Authorities said the driver of the other vehicle suffered fatal injuries in the crash and died as a result of those injuries. The APD officer was not injured.
Officials have not released the identity of the deceased driver, and details about the circumstances leading up to the collision have not yet been made public.
As is standard procedure in crashes involving law enforcement vehicles, the incident is being investigated by the New Mexico State Police.
