Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –The Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center has reported the death of an inmate while in custody. 45 year old James Gonzales was booked into the MDC on July 11th. On July 17th, a medical emergency code was called regarding an inmate in medical distress. MDC personnel, in coordination with the UNM Hospital’s medical team, promptly responded and administered successful life-saving measures. At approximately 11:47 p.m., Gonzales was transported to UNM Hospital by ambulance. Despite treatment at UNM Hospital, he was pronounced deceased on Sunday. Gonzales had no next of kin. The official cause and manner of death will be determined by the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator.
