Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – Bernalillo County and the University of New Mexico Hospital announced that the hospital will no longer manage medical services for the Metropolitan Detention Center. UNMH took over medical, dental, and psychiatric services at the jail in 2023, following a number of inmate deaths. That four-year contract is set to expire in July 2027. While the county and the hospital have characterized the partnership as productive, they say it was a mutual decision not to renew the contract.
