Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — School safety is under review in Bernalillo Public Schools after a year of new security measures. The district introduced a clear backpack policy last August, along with upgrades like cameras, fencing, and access controls. Superintendent Matt Montano says the district has also increased training, added armed security at most campuses, and continues testing additional safety technology. Officials say vaping was the primary challenge this school year. The district is also working to improve reporting systems and explore cybersecurity efforts as part of its ongoing safety strategy.
