ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A cybersecurity incident is disrupting operations across the University of New Mexico Health System, forcing ambulance diversions, canceling clinic appointments, and prompting emergency response measures throughout the Health Sciences Center.
UNM Health officials announced Monday that all ambulance traffic is being diverted to other hospitals and all appointments at UNM Health clinics have been canceled as technology and security teams work to address the issue. Officials have not publicly disclosed the nature of the cybersecurity incident or how long disruptions are expected to last.
The incident is affecting the entire UNM Health Sciences Center, according to university officials. Non-essential personnel and students enrolled in the School of Medicine, College of Pharmacy, College of Nursing, and College of Population Health were instructed to leave campus, while clinical and essential employees remain on duty.
The UNM Health Sciences Center activated an emergency operations center to assess the scope of the disruption and help prevent further impacts. University officials say they are actively working to restore affected systems.
According to reports, the disruption extends beyond the hospital itself and has affected clinics throughout the UNM Health network, including Sandoval Regional Medical Center.
The situation has significant implications for healthcare access across New Mexico. The University of New Mexico Hospital operates the state’s only Level I Trauma Center, serving patients from across New Mexico and the surrounding region. The health system also manages more than 30 clinics statewide and handles approximately 100,000 emergency department visits annually.
Officials are urging patients not to report to UNM Health facilities Monday. Emergency medical needs should be directed through 911, while non-emergency care is being delayed until further notice.
The university has not said whether personal data, medical records, or other sensitive information have been compromised. The investigation remains ongoing.
