Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — Following the news earlier this summer that New Mexico Tech and developer Green Data had paused a proposed solar-powered data center in Socorro, Spaceport America has confirmed that it has held ongoing discussions on a possible project with Green Data since 2021. New Mexico Tech did not pursue the project with Green Data, citing complications including available land that would be required and community concerns. The spaceport said “limited planning agreements” are in effect with the developer, as well as reviews of electric and water usage. Public records show that Spaceport America Director Scott McLaughlin submitted an application for a sublease to the State Land Office, which manages state trust lands, seeking approval to rent land to Green Data Center developer Aetherion Inc. for $176,400 annually.
