SANTA FE, N.M. — The New Mexico Health Care Authority has extended the deadline for certain SNAP recipients affected by the McCauley Springs Fire to request replacement benefits for food lost during the wildfire.
State officials say households that were evacuated because of the fire now have until July 14 to apply for replacement benefits. The extension applies to eligible SNAP recipients living in Sandoval County ZIP codes 87025 and 87044 who lost food purchased with SNAP benefits between June 24 and July 14.
According to the Health Care Authority, approximately 101 households are eligible for the additional assistance.
The replacement benefits can cover the value of food lost as a result of the wildfire, up to the household’s monthly SNAP benefit amount. Officials say the extension is intended to help families recover from the impacts of the fire and evacuation orders.
Eligible households must complete and sign a replacement request, although officials note that a telephonic signature can be accepted for requests made by phone.
Residents seeking replacement benefits must submit their request by July 14, 2026.
For more information, eligible households can contact the New Mexico Health Care Authority’s Income Support Division.
