LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The fourth and final defendant charged in connection with the deadly mass shooting at Young Park in Las Cruces has been found guilty and is now awaiting sentencing.
A jury on Tuesday convicted Gustavo Dominguez on three counts of first-degree murder for his role in the shooting, which left three people dead and dozens of others injured.
Dominguez was 17 years old at the time of the shooting and is the last of four defendants to be convicted in the case. The three other defendants previously entered guilty pleas or were found guilty.
During closing arguments, Doña Ana County District Attorney Fernando Macias argued that Dominguez acted recklessly by firing a handgun 14 times after any immediate threat had ended.
Prosecutors say they will seek lengthy prison sentences for all four convicted defendants. However, none of the defendants have been sentenced yet, and no sentencing dates have been announced.
The Young Park shooting remains one of the deadliest mass shooting incidents in recent Las Cruces history.
