Albuquerque, NM (KKOB)- A 58- year old Albuquerque man is in jail in connection with a fatal motorcycle vs car crash on I-25 near Comanche on Saturday night.
The crash happened just before midnight and according to New Mexico State Police, upon arrival, officers observed several civilians rendering aid to the motorcyclist identified as 24- year old Keegan Thomas. Emergency medical personnel transported Thomas to an area hospital where he later died.
Thanks to witnesses, officers located a 2013 BMW displaying significant driver-side damage consistent with damage observed on the motorcycle.
The preliminary investigation indicates that both the BMW and the motorcycle were traveling north on Interstate 25. For reasons still under investigation, the BMW struck the motorcycle from behind. The impact caused Thomas to be ejected from the motorcycle. Sanchez, the driver of the BMW continued driving until, he told investigators, he realized the vehicle was inoperable and pulled over on the right shoulder.
Sanchez is charged with homicide by vehicle, aggravated DWI, and careless driving. Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in this crash.
This investigation remains under investigation by the New Mexico State Police with assistance from the Vehicular Crimes Unit.
