Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – A new rule to allow student athletes one free transfer during their high school athletic career passed on Thursday by the New Mexico Activities Association Board of Directors. The final rule still needs a decision by the schools across the state on whether they will follow the NMAA decision. The way it would work, the one-time transfer would allow student-athletes to be eligible to participate at their new school, without having to sit out a year. The state increased the fines for recruiting violations from $25-hundred to $5-thousand dollars.
Not all districts say they will follow the new transfer option, the Albuquerque Journal says Rio Rancho and Las Cruces will continue to prohibit transfers within their districts but would accept transfers from outside their district. APS seems to be infavor and will follow the new NMAA rule.
