NM Teachers Are Getting Raises

TEACHERS AND PRINCIPALS IN NEW MEXICO ARE GETTING A RAISE. GOVERNOR MICHELLE LUJAN GRISHAM’S FIRST BUDGET, RELEASED THURSDAY PROPOSES A SIX PERCENT PAY RAISE FOR ALL TEACHERS AND A MINIMUM 12 DOLLAR AN HOUR PAY RATE FOR ALL OTHER SCHOOL EMPLOYEES. THE MINIMUM WAGE WILL ALSO APPLY TO ALL STATE WORKERS.

THE OVERALL EDUCATION BUDGET IS 3-POINT-2-9 BILLION DOLLARS, A BOOST OF 500-MILLION DOLLARS. THE TOTAL SPENDING PLAN FOR THE GOVERNOR IS 7-POINT-1 BILLION DOLLARS, A 13 PERCENT INCREASE.
