Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – A 16- year old teenaged male is in custody in connection with the murder of a 20-year-old woman who was found shot inside a car in southwest Albuquerque near Unser Blvd.
Detectives with the APD’s Homicide Unit arrested Nemecio Lopez in connection with the shooting death of 20-year-old Estreita Maes-Tapia.
On Monday, October 27, at approximately 4:53 p.m., APD officers responded to a shooting call near the intersection of Gibson Blvd. SW and De Anza Dr. SW. Arriving officers located the victim, seated in a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. She was transported to the University of New Mexico Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
APD spokesperson Rebecca Atkins says “the multi-day investigation, utilizing gunshot detection technology, residential surveillance footage, and license plate readers,” is what led investigators to Lopez’s arrest.
Investigators established that the suspect and the victim were previously acquainted.
An arrest warrant was obtained through the Second Judicial District Court’s Children’s Court Division charging Lopez with an Open Count of Murder and Shooting at or from a Motor Vehicle.
