Las Cruces, NM (KKOB) – A 9-year-old Las Cruces girl is dead after being struck by a train early Tuesday morning. Police say Nancy Harvey was found near railroad tracks by Conway Avenue and South Main Street shortly after 2 a.m. Investigators believe the child, who was autistic, wandered away from her home before the incident.
A child abuse charge stemming from a lack of supervision was filed against the mother by the State on Sept. 21, 2026
The child was in a relative placement with her maternal grandmother.
Both she and her sister were placed into care mid-September due to lack of supervision and alcohol abuse by their mother.
Now questions are being raised as to how 9-year old Nancy Harvey was able to walk away from the home before she was struck and killed by the train.
