Albuquerque, NM ( KKOB) — Sandia Peak Ski Area leaders have said they are looking at a five-year plan to complete their ideas on making the resort a year-round destination. The ski area said it just doesn’t make sense to stay closed nine months out of the year. A new plan would make it more accessible, not just to skiers and snowboarders, but to hikers, horseback riders and bicyclists year-round. Miles of trails running through their ski area are open to the public. In recent months, volunteers have helped clear more than twenty trail miles for multi-season recreation. Other ideas include a possible future wedding venue. Meanwhile, the ski area is also building a museum to highlight their role as the oldest ski area in New Mexico.
