Santa Fe, NM (KKOB) – A 17-year old teenager is at UNMH after being shot inside a residence in Santa Fe early Friday morning. Santa Fe police report they answered a call around 2 a.m. at the Coronado Condominiums at 2800 Cerrillos Rd about a shooting. Once there, they found the teen with a gunshot wound. He was transferred to UNMH in Albuquerque due to his injuries being life threatening.
As the investigation was ongoing, police reviewed surveillance video showing the suspect leaving the residence in a vehicle and armed with a handgun.
At approximately 3:46 a.m., officers observed the vehicle driving in the area of the Dakota Canyon Apartments, at 501 West Zia Road. Officers saw that the driver turned off the vehicle lights, and the vehicle was found in the parking lot abandoned.
The suspect was located nearby, but fled on foot. SFPD received assistance from deputies with the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office. After approximately 30 minutes of searching, a DWI Officer and Sheriff’s Deputy located the suspect. He was taken into custody without further incident. He has been identified as Mario Uriel Tobar-Recinos, 20, of Santa Fe.
He has been charged with Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon and additional related charges.
