Santa Fe, NM (KKOB) – Members of the Santa Fe community and city leaders taking advantage of the meet and greet with the two finalists for police chief. Interim Chief Ben Valdez and Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza answered a lot of questions from members of the public and most of the city council at the city’s Community Convention Center. Among the concerns was traffic enforcement to use of force and police oversight.
According to the Santa Fe New Mexican, Chief Valdez faced a lot of questions and comments on high-profile incidents involving officers. Sheriff Mendoza said, if appointed he would be improving responses to property crimes. Both finalists will have another round of interviews with City Manager Brian Moya, the deputy city manager and the human resources director — and then another round with Mayor Michael Garcia. The City Manager will then decide on who will be the next chief.
